12:28 am - Tu Recuerdo
Ok, so I feel like that person that as soon as they start dating someone new is suddenly hanging out with their ex whom they haven't talked to in months. Whatever. So I have a new blog. But what I want to say tonight fits better with this one. In fact, it even fits with the metaphor that I just came up with on a whim. I heard this song on my local Spanish language radio station (you know, the one that used to be easy listening, and before that classic rock, and before that upbeat oldies, and before that smooth jazz yet I always keep it set to a favorite). Anyway, I was listening to Rumba, and this song came on. Tu Recuerdo. Now, I don't speak Spanish, though I've been flirting with the language, trying it on for size, seeing if it's a fit, but this song, it spoke to me. And low and behold it's by Ricky Martin. Imagine my surprise that he actually had something poignant to sing, something more than soccer jingles and shakin' bon bons. So give Ricky the benefit of the doubt and go to www.rickymartin.com to hear the song for free. Or if you want visual stimulus search it on YouTube. It's there. And for your benefit I'll paste the lyrics here as well as the highly mangled BabelFish translation for those who aren't graced with fluency in Spanish.

First en Espagnol (sorry I'm too lazy to find the tilda):

TU RECUERDO (FEAT. LA MARI DE CHAMBAO Y TOMMY TORRES)

TU RECUERDO SIGUE AQUÍ, COMO UN AGUACERO
ROMPE FUERTE SOBRE MÍ, PERO A FUEGO LENTO
QUEMA Y MOJA POR IGUAL, Y YA NO SÉ LO QUE PENSAR
SI TU RECUERDO ME HACE BIEN O ME HACE MAL

UN BESO GRIS, UN BESO BLANCO
TODO DEPENDE DEL LUGAR
QUE YO ME FUÍ, ESO ESTÁ CLARO
PERO TU RECUERDO NO SE VA

SIENTO TUS LABIOS EN LAS NOCHES DE VERANO
AHÍ ESTÁN, CUIDÁNDOME EN MI SOLEDAD
PERO A VECES ME QUIEREN MATAR

TU RECUERDO SIGUE AQUÍ… (REPITE CORO)

A VECES GRIS, A VECES BLANCO
TODO DEPENDE DEL LUGAR
QUE TÚ TE FUISTE, ESO ES PASADO
SÉ QUE TE TENGO QUE OLVIDAR

PERO YO LE PUSE UNA VELITA A TO’S MIS SANTOS
AHÍ ESTÁ, PA’ QUE PIENSES MUCHO EN MÍ
NO DEJES DE PENSAR EN MÍ

TU RECUERDO SIGUE AQUÍ… (REPITE CORO)

(PIENSA EN MÍ) ES ANTÍDOTO Y VENENO AL CORAZÓN
(TE HACE BIEN) QUE QUEMA Y MOJA, QUE VIENE Y VA
(¿TÚ DONDE ESTÁS?) ATRAPADO ENTRE LOS VERSOS Y EL ADIÓS

TU RECUERDO SIGUE AQUÍ
COMO AGUACERO DE MAYO
ROMPE FUERTE SOBRE MÍ
Y CAE TAN FUERTE QUE HASTA ME QUEMA HASTA LA PIEL
QUEMA Y MOJA POR IGUAL
Y YA NO SÉ LO QUE PENSAR
SI TU RECUERDO ME HACE BIEN O ME HACE MAL

TU RECUERDO SIGUE AQUÍ
LE LO LAY LELO LELO
ROMPE FUERTE SOBRE MÍ
PERO QUE ROMPE, ROMPE, EL CORAZÓN
QUEMA Y MOJA POR IGUAL, SÉ QUE TE TENGO QUE OLVIDAR
SI TU RECUERDO ME HACE BIEN Y ME HACE MAL

Now in Babble, I mean Babelfish:

YOUR MEMORY (FEAT. The MARI OF CHAMBAO And TOMMY TOWERS)

YOUR MEMORY FOLLOWS HERE, LIKE A HEAVY SHOWER IT BREAKS STRONG ON ME, BUT To UNTIMED FIRE IT BURNS And IT DUNKS The same, And NO LONGER I KNOW WHAT TO THINK IF YOUR MEMORY DOES To ME OR Or ME IT MAKES BAD

A GRAY KISS, A WHITE KISS EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON THE PLACE THAT I FUÍ, THAT IS CLEAR BUT YOUR MEMORY DOES NOT GO AWAY I FEEL YOUR LIPS IN THE NIGHTS OF SUMMER THERE THEY ARE, TAKING CARE OF TO ME IN MY SOLITUDE BUT Sometimes THEY WANT To ME TO KILL

YOUR MEMORY FOLLOWS HERE... (CHOIR REPEATS)

GRAY, Sometimes Sometimes WHITE EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON THE PLACE THAT YOU WERE YOURSELF, THAT IS PASSED I KNOW THAT I MUST FORGET TO YOU BUT I PUT A VELITA To HIM To TÓS MY SAINTS THERE HE IS, PÁ THAT YOU THINK MUCH ABOUT ME YOU DO NOT LET THINK ABOUT ME

YOUR MEMORY FOLLOWS HERE... (CHOIR REPEATS) (IT THINKS ABOUT ME) IT IS ANTIDOTE And POISON To the HEART (IT DOES To YOU WELL) THAT BURNS And DUNKS, THAT COMES And GOES (YOU WHERE YOU ARE) CATCHED BETWEEN VERSES And GOOD BYE

YOUR MEMORY FOLLOWS HERE LIKE MAY HEAVY SHOWER IT BREAKS STRONG ON ME And IT FALLS SO HARD THAT UNTIL IT BURNS To ME UNTIL The SKIN IT BURNS And IT DUNKS The same And NO LONGER I KNOW WHAT TO THINK IF YOUR MEMORY DOES To ME OR Or ME IT MAKES BAD

YOUR MEMORY FOLLOWS HERE HIM LAY LELO LELO IT BREAKS STRONG ON ME BUT THAT BREAKS, IT BREAKS, THE HEART IT BURNS And IT DUNKS The same, I KNOW THAT I MUST FORGET To YOU IF YOUR MEMORY DOES To ME WELL And ME IT MAKES BAD

02:42 am - New Blog
I have a new blog at anotherworldcitizen.wordpress.com if you are interested. I don't really post to this one much anymore. I think I'll keep it for lyrics posts and memes and such, but the other one is going to be more spiritual and personal stuff. Check it out if that interests you. It only really has one post now.

01:41 am - Maybe today...
I'm going to try to reconnect to LJ. Whenever I stop reading for a few days I always feel overwhelmed to come back. Like I missed so much I can never catch up and people (who probably don't even realize I'm lurking) will never forgive me for not showing my interest through my usual deluge of comments. What a silly little idiosyncracy of mine. I need to let it go, because I like LJ.

12:30 pm - I'm back!
Alaska was awesome. Oregon was cool, though Portland couldn't live up to the pedestal I had put it on. Washington was 107 degrees, Seattle was cooler, both in temperature and style. Not a drop of rain though. I drove to Idaho just because I could and was pleasantly surprised. I'll hopefully load my pictures soon through facebook and if I'm motivated add a link here.

09:25 pm - A Comedy of Errors...
So Wednesday I arrive with bags in hand to pick up my railpass and leave on my journey only to find out that the pass is only for non-US citizens. US citizens could use a different pass that is more than twice the cost and requires you to go to Canada. This was very bad news and left me in tears and with a cancelled trip. My Mom, who rocks, has work off this week and suggested we go on a cruise of the Alaskan coast. It ends in Vancouver and I'll be staying there an extra week and visiting Seattle and Portland, the two places I wanted to see most, so all is not lost. I will not be updating that frequently though, as I am no longer bringing my laptop, so alas.

09:40 pm - Summer Travels
So for those of you that do not know, the road trip fell through. Blythe never got her license. But I will not be thwarted so easily. Upon visiting DC in May I noticed banners for "Travel the US with Amtrak" and recalling them, I checked out the website. Turns out the US has railpasses much like Europe. While a 30-day unlimited pass is much more expensive than the Europe equivalent, it has the added bonus of being unlimited (most Eurorails allow 4-5 destinations) and most likely less crowded (I have read many an article about the slow death of Amtrak). So this last month I've tinkered with this notion, and today I finally bought the pass. This really has turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it means I won't have the stress of driving, but still will be able to actually see the country (at least through a window) instead of merely flying over it. Plus I plan on bringing some cards and socializing with the other travelers, which I might not be as inclined to do if I wasn't traveling alone. I'll be heading out on Wed. July, 5th and will be taking my laptop with me as another bonus to Amtrak is that every seat is equipt with an outlet. I figure I'll turn this little LJ into a travel blog, and take my digital camera with me and post links to photos along the way. The itinerary is as follows:

Departure: Arrival:
7/5/2006 Trenton 10:55am Cleveland 7/6/2006 2:21am
7/7/2006 Cleveland 2:27am Chicago 7/7/2006 8:30am
7/7/2006 Chicago 1:50pm Omaha 7/7/2006 10:19pm
7/8/2006 Omaha 10:39pm Salt Lake City 7/9/2006 11:33pm
7/10/2006 Salt Lake City 11:59pm Reno, NV 7/11/2006 9:14am
7/12/2006 Reno 5:14am Los Angeles 7/12/2006 6:40pm
Chill in LA with Blythe while she "orients" at USC
7/15/2006 Los Angeles 9:30am Portland 7/16/2006 2:55pm
7/18/2006 Portland 2:50pm Seattle 7/18/2006 6:20pm
7/20/2006 Seattle 4:45pm West Glacier 7/21/2006 8:16am
7/22/2006 West Glacier 8:16pm Chicago 7/23/2006 3:55pm
7/23/2006 Chicago 7:45pm Lafayette, IN 7/24/2006 11:43pm
7/25/2006 Lafayette, IN 11:43pm Washington, DC 7/26/2006 7:45pm
??? Washington, DC Trenton

The only realy ugly boarding/deboardings are Cleveland and Reno, but I really want to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and with Reno I could have left later but my sister's flight gets in early. I think the biggest highlights are on the trip home, as I've always wanted to see Portland and Seattle, and Glacier National Park soon will cease to be with global warming and all. As for Lafayette, IN, that's where a friend from high school now lives. I'm also psyched because from West Glacier to Chicago I am going to go all out and get a full sleeper cabin. Sleeper cabins are posh and include meals, daily paper, bottled water, and other amenities. The rest of the time I'll be slumming it, but I rode a sleeper in China and loved it, so I can't wait. All in all it should be a great trip, so check in for the updates. Also if you will be in any of these areas during said dates let me know. Notice DC peeps I left the return date open, as I'd love to chill with you all.

What do you do when you are overwhelmed with sadness? Do you have tricks to beat it or do you just let it wash over you? Does it depend on your energy level at the time? Sadness is powerful, and can be good, but it can be immobilizing. Thoughts?

12:06 am - Marriage
My husband likes to watch the cooking shows, the building shows,
the Discovery Channel, and the surgery channel.
Last Night, he told us about a man who came into the emergency room

with a bayonet stuck entirely through his skull and brain.
Did they get it out? We all asked.
They did. And the man was O.K. because the blade went exactly between

the two halves without severing them.
And who had shoved this bayonet into the man's head? His wife.
A strong woman, someone said. And everyone else agreed.

by Marie Howe

I was reading a collection of poetry called "You Drive Me Crazy" and I just had to share that poem. The last stanza just cracks me up because there are so many different ways to interpret that. The interplay between the speaker's marriage/view of her husband, and that of the 'strong woman'. It's just delightful in describing that cruel frustration love causes in a jestful way.

Thoughts?

03:48 pm - The fervid Hokey-Poke
This was on a friend of mine's away message and I just had to share, as its quite amusing:

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heavens yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke -- banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.
